Do you have a snoring issue that you don’t know how to solve? Knowing exactly what causes snoring is the first step in solving the problem. There are many reasons that people snore, and your problem may be due to a wide range of reasons from physical features to lifestyle choices.

In a basic sense, snoring is caused by an obstruction to the free flow of air through the cavities at the back of the mouth and nose. In this area, you can find the collapsible part of the air passage, where the tongue and the upper throat meet the soft palate and the uvula. When these structures hit each other, they vibrate and reverberate, causing what we know as snoring. Now, we’ll look at more specific reasons on why one might snore.

Poor muscle tone in the throat and the tongue are one of the key reasons that people snore. When the muscles in the throat are too relaxed, the tongue may fall into the airway or the muscles of the throat might draw in from the sides. This causes airway blockage, and consequently, a snoring problem. The muscles can be overly relaxed from drinking alcohol, as it is a depressant that makes all of your muscles relax. If you are planning on drinking in a night but don’t want to snore, it’s best to have your last drink at least four hours before you go to sleep, giving your body the time to process the alcohol and get back to normal before bed. In addition, sleeping pills are powerful muscle relaxants that behave in your body the same way as alcohol as far as snoring is concerned. Anti-histamines are also known to cause trouble with relaxing the throat muscles.

One cause of snoring is obesity. While obesity is responsible for many problems, it is uniquely troublesome to a snoring condition. In obese people, fatty tissues are deposited in the neck and throat areas. This can put pressure on the airway from which we inhale and exhale, especially when laying down. Also, when sleeping, the throat muscles relax, and they may buckle under the weight of extra fatty deposits.

Allergies may account for another reason that someone snores. When faced with allergens, nasal congestion can occur in an allergic person. This contracts the airway and can result in snoring. However, since anti-histamines are also a snoring no-go, it is best to take a nasal decongestant for any allergen troubles before sleep.

These are merely some of the reasons that one may snore. There are a host of causes to snoring, these are simply some of the more common reasons. If none of these symptoms seem like they are what is affecting you, it can be helpful to speak to a health care professional about the issue so that you can get it solved quickly and effectively. Snoring seems like a harmless problem, but it can wreak havoc on your sleep cycles and even cause such complications as heart problems and strokes if left untreated.

Are you wondering if snoring is a problem that you can pass on to your children? Unfortunately, the answer is yes, you can. According to a research study published in the journal "Chest", children that have at least one parent that snored were three times more likely to snore themselves when compared to children whose parents had no snoring problem. The study was undertaken in order to more accurately determine the inheritance of snoring due to the fact that snoring is “the primary symptom of sleep-disordered breathing”.

Truly, snoring is a warning sign for the dreaded affliction known as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, or OSA. This disorder causes the sufferer to stop breathing while asleep due to airway obstructions. Basic, primary snoring is hindered breathing, but it is breathing nonetheless. When Obstructive Sleep Apnoea is present, the victim will stop breathing for periods longer than 10 seconds while asleep, waking them up to make them gasp and choke for air.

This problem is not only an issue in the evening, either. Obstructive Sleep Apnoea leaves the afflicted with sore throats and headaches when they wake up. The lack of sleep due to the OSA is responsible for a lack of concentration, irritability, and bad behavior. If OSA is left untreated, it can increase blood pressure, lower blood-oxygen levels, make the heart work harder, and cause a greater occurrence of heart attacks and strokes.

For the research study, 681 children in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital medical centre were studied. The researchers also found that African-American children were roughly 3 times as likely to snore then children of other races. In addition, the study showed that children who tested positive for Atopy (an early indicator of asthma and allergies) were twice as likely to snore as those children who tested negative.

Dr Maninder Kalra, the lead author of the report, stated that the benefits of the research study included identifying which children snored so that doctors could more accurately identify the high-risk groups for sleeping disorders, and be able to notify their parents to help prevent any long-term damage.

Kalra was also quoted as saying “More than 40 million children in the western world have allergies. In addition, the incidence of allergy-related respiratory diseases is a risk factor for obstructive sleep-disordered breathing, the association between Atopy and habitual snoring in young children has not been studied. "Now that we know how prevalent snoring is in children this young and that it is more common in children with positive Atopic status, parents and health care professionals can take appropriate action.”

With this knowledge, you can now tell whether or not your own children are at a risk for suffering from sleep disorders. If snoring occurs, it is important to get your child screened for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. The effects it can have on a child if left untreated are irreparable. Polysomnography tests are available at most local hospitals. They are painless, and they are often covered by insurance.

It is hard to avoid facing the fact that smoking is not good for our health. However, what you may not have realized is that it is also a contributing factor to the condition of snoring.

Whilst we all realize that smoking can lead to heart and lung diseases many people still choose to smoke. Perhaps knowing that smoking is making their snoring worse and alienating their loved ones, will be the incentive persistent smokers need to give up the weed for good?

Recent studies have proven that there is a link between smoking and snoring with smokers more likely to have a higher incidence of snoring than non-smokers. Another frightening statistic is that those who are exposed to cigarette smoke in their environment, who are effectively passive smokers, are more likely to be heavy snorers too.

Smoking is known to cause respiratory problems so it should come as no surprise to learn that it contributes to and causes snoring. It is thought that the smoke inhaled by the person irritates the delicate mucous membranes in the airways causing them to become inflamed and swollen which then blocks the airways and causes snoring.

Researchers are now also investigating what damage nicotine can do to the nervous system as it is thought that prolonged exposure to this chemical substance can cause nerve damage within the airways.

We all know smoking is addictive. There is a chemical addiction to nicotine and there is a habitual addiction to smoking to consider too. Smoking is harmful to the smoker and also to anyone else who is exposed to the cigarette smoke in the environment. It is shocking to realize that such passive smoking carries with it the same risks of smoking related diseases and conditions, including snoring.

Despite the well documented facts about the damage smoking does to the body, many people find it hard to give up. Even social pressure does not seem to help. Perhaps by realizing that smoking can also cause problems in the bedroom, people will consider giving up for another reason altogether.

Some smokers persist because they believe that the damage has been done. In fact this is not true. The damage caused by smoking can be undone and smokers who give up will notice an improvement in their health and wellbeing within a relatively short period of time – and this includes a reduction in the volume and frequency of the snoring. Once they have stopped smoking, their snoring problem should decrease also.

As a smoker, it will be impossible to cure your snoring problem if you are not prepared to give up cigarettes. It really is as simple as that. By giving up smoking you not only have a much better chance of not snoring but you also improve so many other aspects of your health and wellbeing – including your relationships.

If you give up smoking, you will not only lose your snore and improve your relationships and your health. You may find your relationships also improve.

Snoring affects your family in ways that you may be unfamiliar with. While snoring can be a problem that affects your health personally, few know about the trauma it can cause to their bedmate. Also, few know that heredity can help to determine whether or not a person snores! These associations can be of interest to families, and should be studied and discussed.

In April of 2006, the medical journal CHEST featured a study by some researchers at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital Medical Center relating to family history and their snoring habits. The results showed that those children of parents, who snore, are three times as probable to snore themselves. In further detail, the study also found that snoring in these children was often associated with the presence of an allergic sensitization, a condition also known as Atopy. The study involved 681 children that were an average age of 12. The study found that children with at least one parent who snored more than three times a week were also three times more likely to snore themselves.

It was also found that children with Atopy were two times more likely to snore at least three times per week then children who tested negative for allergic sensitization. This is an important study to take note of as children who are frequent snorers can often exhibit behavioral problems, cognitive deficits, and metabolic as well as cardiovascular problems. This has been taken so seriously, that the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended every child be tested for obstructive sleep-disordered breathing. (Partial or complete upper airway obstruction during a child’s sleep characterizes this disorder, and snoring is often one of the warning signs). In addition to the findings regarding heredity and snoring, some associations were made in the study about racial effects on snoring. For instance it was found that African American children were found much more likely to have problems with snoring.

Although snoring may be an inheritable condition, that doesn’t mean that there is nothing you can do. There are many ways to fix the problem of snoring, and they relate to the various reasons for which you may snore. Lifestyle changes, health, or oral appliances can be helpful to solving your problem. The first step is to figure out exactly what is making you snore.

As far as your snoring affecting life with your bed mate, there are some very serious consequences. People with heavy snoring patterns can cause their partner to lose as much as 1 full hour of sleep per evening, while waking them up as many as 21 times an hour! This sleep disruption can cause some very serious problems with concentration and irritability. Known as spousal arousal syndrome, this issue is a reason to work towards solving your snoring problem, if not for yourself. According to a recent survey, 80% of snoring couples sleep apart. This shows that snoring can have numerous negative effects on your relationship, especially your sex life. If your spouse is a snorer, it is important that you address the problem so that the two of you can face it head-on, eliminating the need for such drastic moves as sleeping separately.

A baby monitor is a very useful device to keep an eye on your child when you are away from him/her. If you are unable to carry your baby everywhere with you, the baby monitors can alert you about baby’s movements almost instantly. You will be able to carry on your important tasks while taking care of your baby as well. With advanced technologies in baby monitors, you can safely rely on them when it comes to keeping vigilence on your child.

There are different types of baby monitors such as video, audio and movement or breathing monitors. The audio monitor is the most popular type of monitor. Some monitors are mobile and can be shifted from one room to another. Before purchasing the baby monitor, it is necessary to understand the technologies in baby monitors. Most monitors come with additional features such as colorful lights, soft music, temperature reading and remote control operation.

Technologies in baby monitors include a unidirectional radio transmitter and receiver system along with a microphone and a receiver having a speaker. The microphone is kept near the baby and the parents carry the receiver. The frequency used by this device is about 49-50 megahertz; though some models may use as high as 900 megahertz. To eliminate the possibility of picking up the transmissions by the receiver, several models enable the choice of bands. Wireless baby monitor does not consist of any cord or wire attached to it.

The baby monitors are available with various facilities such as:

* A baby monitor with incorporated digital camera can show the video footage on the receiver. Such type of monitor is known as digital or video baby monitor and it works in a similar way as that of web cams. They enable you to keep an eye on your baby at any time of the day.
* Some baby monitors are bi-directional which allow you to communicate back to your baby using transceivers.
* Some monitors come with a feature for playing music on the transmitter.
* Some monitors are equipped with video facility and they are called as video and two-way sound monitor.
* There are some monitors equipped with movement sensors fitted on the transmitter that allows it to warn about possible sudden infant death syndrome.
* There are also baby heart monitors and baby breathing monitors.
* Some monitors come with a vibrating alert on the receiver. It is particularly useful for the people having hearing difficulties.
* Some monitors have dial-up and internet connection.

Important features of baby monitors are frequency band, multiple channels, sound lights, out-of-range indicator, low battery indicator, walkie-talkie and auto playback or music. Baby monitors are very useful to take care of your baby, especially for babies having asthma, breathing problems, sleep apnea or cystic fibrosis. Such babies require constant monitoring.

Regular maintenance of the baby monitors is essential in order to reap the most benefits from it. You should check the cords, batteries and adapters on a regular basis to prevent their malfunction. You should take care that the transmitter does not get wet, falls or placed in heated environment. Amazing technologies in baby monitors can help the parents to keep track of baby all the times.
